On May 1, 2008, when Swedens technical metal giants Meshuggah came to New York on Ministrys CU-La-Tour, guitarists Fredrik Thordendal and Marten Hagstrom (above left and right, respectively) stopped by MetalKults Manhattan headquarters for a video interview and riff lesson. Meshuggah were also touring in support of their latest album, Obzen, which was released on March 11 on Nuclear Blast. In this rare footage, the guitarists talk about their eight-string guitars, extraterrestrial solos, challenging polyrhythms, and time-signature misconceptions, before demonstrating how to play some classic riffs from their catalog, including Rational Gaze, Bleed, Electric Red, Pravus, New Millenium Cyanide Christ, The Mouth Licking What Youve Bled and Future Breed Machine. Check out all this death-tech goodness below!

Mixing Metal – Part 3 – Mixdown
This is my fourth video in my ‘Unsung Guitar Hero’ Series. I’ve only been able to get a snapshot into Geordie’s back catalogue (as he has a HUGE repotoire of stuff with Killing Joke, Muder inc, Pigface etc). Really underrated guitarist, such a big influence on modern alternative music. I hope you enjoy. Once again, all feedback and queries are great. All the best, keep rockin’ and stay inspired. Ben \m/
